The ‘We Are The City’ Rising Stars awards are now in their seventh year, representing the female talent pipeline and the next generation of future leaders. So, it is fantastic to see alumna Jessica Thorne listed in the Digital category for her work as a Technology Consultant at IBM.

Jessica said: ‘I was honoured to have been shortlisted for this award. Throughout my time at STAHS my efforts and attitude were formally recognised and awarded with prizes for my contribution to school life. Having grown up playing netball, tennis, lacrosse and dance, I have always thrived in a competitive environment, and my time at IBM has channelled my ambition and drive to exceed in all aspects of life.’

When Jessica joined IBM in 2019 on the graduate scheme, having achieved a First from the University of Birmingham in Business Management, she didn’t have a technical background. She threw herself into the challenge of becoming a Technical Consultant, and has consequently become a subject matter expert in cognitive applications.

Jessica said: ‘I am now a cognitive consultant, specialising in delivering AI solutions for various different clients within IBM; I am currently working with a UK Top 10 bank to deliver a new asynchronous AI messaging platform for their customers, which is a really exciting challenge.’

WeAreTheCity was founded in 2008, initially as a centralised place for women to find a range of career development resources, supporting them to up skill, grow their networks and progress in their careers.

Voting is now open until 30 April, and the winners will be announced on 25 May 2021.
