From an impressive field of candidates, Amber was selected because of her unique blend of engineering and education experience, both in the US and the UK, her intellect and her vision.
Amber said: “I feel privileged to be given the opportunity to lead and serve the St Albans High School community. The school has a distinct warmth, charm and happy sense of purpose, and I look forward to getting to know the pupils, parents and staff who make it such a special place.”
Currently Deputy Head Pastoral at St Dunstan’s College in Catford, Amber was educated in Texas, USA and, after a degree in Mathematics, embarked on a 10-year career in engineering and research as a biogeochemical oceanographer, before discovering a passion for teaching.
She taught for a number of years in the US, before moving to the UK, working in the Civil Service as Director of Schools and Universities Learning Programmes and then returning to teaching.
She has taught at Headington, Abingdon and Ashford Schools, before taking up her current role at St Dunstan’s College in Catford.
The current Head, Jenny Brown, announced her departure in December to take up a new headship at the City of London School for Girls.
